The Aquehonga district, like many others, was thrown a curveball as the world was upended in March of 2020. Living by the Scout motto, the Packs and Troops of the Aquehonga District were prepared. They quickly figured out ways to hold virtual meetings and keep the Scouting movement alive.
As restrictions began to ease Packs and Troops, following all safety guidelines, began to host activities outdoors. Units held food drives for local food pantries, clean up events and local parks and even continued traditions such Troopsgiving.
Despite the difficulty the district even hosted a membership event with the first ever Staten Island Take-A-Hike. Units hosted socially distant hikes at parks around Staten Island and asked Scouts to invite their friends. It was an excellent opportunity to show how Scouting can adapt to any challenge and help scouts and their friends get outdoors.
