Please join us in welcoming Richard (Dick) Davies as the incoming Chief Executive Officer for the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America. He succeeds Ethan Draddy who recently retired. We wish Ethan the best in his retirement and deeply appreciate his outstanding leadership over the past eight years.
We are very grateful to welcome someone with Dick’s experience to lead us forward. He has been a member of our Executive Board for 18 years and most recently served as our Council Commissioner and Exploring Chair for the Northeast Region. Dick also brings to this new role his own experience as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, camp staff member, Philmont trekker, Eagle Scout, Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and Explorer growing up in Wisconsin. In college, Dick served as the National Explorer President and youth member of the National Executive Board. Scouting and Exploring is a real family venture for Dick as he met his wife Gayle in Exploring and their son Bradley is an Eagle Scout. Dick is the recipient of the Silver Beaver, Outstanding Eagle, Spurgeon and Manhattan Council President’s Awards. He has served at both National and World Jamborees. His other nonprofit service includes Chairing the Advisory Board of the Economics Department at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dick’s private sector knowledge and experience in business will help guide us during these challenging times. He served as Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Defined Contribution and Multi-Asset Business Development at AllianceBernstein, and currently is an independent consultant, investor and advisory board member for start-up companies. He earned a BA with Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Economics and Political Science, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
We are looking forward to working with Dick in stewarding NYC Scouting and Exploring and ensuring its growth and effectiveness. You can reach Dick at Richard.Davies@Scouting.org.
