Tribute in Light was first presented on April 11, 2002, six months after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The Municipal Art Society of New York has presented it annually till 2011. In 2011, MAS transferred the project to the newly-opened National 9/11 Memorial and Museum, which has continued to present it annually. The majestic blue twin beams shine from dusk on September 11, through dawn the next day. The illuminated memorial reaches 4 miles into the sky and is visible within a sixty-mile radius on a clear night. The Tribute has become a world-renowned icon of remembrance, honoring those who were lost, as well as those who worked so hard to get our city through that terrible trial.

In 2011 the Greater New York Councils released 2 Tribute in Light CSP’s. Both CSPs feature the NYC skyline at dusk with The Tribute in Light. The second CSP has
“Never Forget” ghosted at the bottom. 10 years later, on this 20th Anniversary of 9/11 we are reissuing these patches with the addition of a red, white and blue ribbon and the year 2021.
